Military History - Ross McMullin
Wednesday 6th March 2013
The Club is honoured to welcome Ross McMullin, acclaimed speaker and author of the renowned bestseller Pompey Elliott, who will enlighten us about his latest book Farewell, Dear People.
This magisterial book tells the stories of ten young men who exemplified Australia’s gifted lost generation of World War I. Among them are an internationally acclaimed medical researcher; a military officer described by his brigadier as potentially an Australia Kitchener; a rugby international who became an esteemed administrator and a rising Labor star; a visionary vigneron and community leader from South Australia; and an engineer who excelled on Mawson’s Antarctic mission.
‘There is so much to admire and to praise in this book. The research is prodigious, the storytelling hypnotic, the confidence and clarity of the writer remarkable. McMullin writes as well about sport as he does about war, or medical research, or wine-making, or Antarctic exploring.’ DR MICHAEL MCKERNAN
